President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) considered that he has a good relationship with Mexican businessmen, although he asked them for greater investment to promote the country's economic development.
He reported that the synergy of his government's work with the private initiative can be seen in the 2019 National Infrastructure Plan (budget of 859 billion pesos), while in 2020 an investment agreement will be established in the energy sector.
In the first morning conference of 2020, he indicated that there is “a very good relationship with Mexican businessmen” and added that “Mexico is considered one of the countries with the most guarantees for foreign investment, guarantees not only because there is a rule of law in force. as had not been seen in other times, but because within a few weeks the new free trade agreement (T-MEC) will be approved, which will allow doing business in Mexico and giving access to the most important market in the world.”
He exemplified that the good relationship Chile Mobile Number List with private initiative is observed from various angles, such as “the strength of the peso, which appreciated by around 5% in relation to the dollar, was the third currency that strengthened the most last year in relation to the currency. American, this does not happen in other countries.”
López Obrador added that “foreign investment continues to arrive” although he considered that in the country “we need more investment so that we have economic growth.”
Throughout 2019, the Mexican president had numerous investment agreements and private meetings with directors of global corporations such as Santander, ENGIE, Microsoft, Facebook, AT&T, among others.
Although agreements were also made with Mexican business chambers, the contrast between the approach of foreign and national private initiatives was notable.
“A lot of progress was made (in 2019) to define an economic strategy for the benefit of Mexicans, it was made clear to them that we care about growth but more about development, growing means creating wealth and development means that there is wealth and distributing it equitably, we are very interested that there be progress with well-being and justice,” he expressed.
He indicated that his purposes and wishes for 2020 are: to consolidate the Fourth Transformation, the well-being of the poor, social peace and that natural disasters do not occur.
Other economic development actions for 2020 will be to boost the domestic market, promote food self-sufficiency (corn, beans and milk), establish programs to strengthen the footwear and textile industries, and consolidate the energy sector.
